Warranty Policy

The Part Is Covered. The Labor Isn't.
When something we installed fails while it's still within its manufacturer's warranty, the replacement part itself is provided at no cost to you. The manufacturer's warranty does not pay us — it does not cover our time to diagnose the problem, remove the failed part, handle the RMA, or install the replacement. That labor is billed at our standard rates.
How Manufacturer Warranties Work
Most hardware we sell or install — routers, switches, access points, NAS units, PCs, and other equipment — is covered by a manufacturer's warranty against defects, not by FoleyIT. That warranty is between you (or FoleyIT, acting on your behalf) and the manufacturer (e.g. Ubiquiti, TP-Link, Dell, Synology).
Warranty length varies by manufacturer and product — commonly 1 to 3 years, sometimes longer on enterprise gear. We'll confirm the exact coverage window for your specific device when you contact us about an issue.
FoleyIT does not manufacture hardware, does not set manufacturer warranty terms, and cannot extend a manufacturer's warranty beyond what the manufacturer offers.
What's Covered vs. What You're Billed For
If a device fails due to a manufacturing defect while still within its warranty period:
- Covered by the manufacturer: the replacement part or unit itself — no charge for the hardware
- Not covered — billed by FoleyIT: diagnostic time, removing the failed unit, packaging and shipping for RMA, and installing the replacement
In other words, a warranty replacement means you don't pay for the part again — it does not mean the visit is free. This is standard across the industry: manufacturers warranty their products, not the labor of whoever installed them.
Manufacturer Warranty vs. Our Workmanship Warranty
These are two different things and easy to mix up:
- Manufacturer's warranty — covers a defective part, for as long as that part remains under warranty. Labor is never included.
- FoleyIT's 14-day workmanship warranty — covers our labor if an issue is caused by how we performed the original work, for 14 days after that service. It does not cover hardware failures or manufacturer defects — see our Service Ticket Terms.
A device that simply fails on its own — with no error in how it was installed — falls under the manufacturer's warranty, not ours, regardless of how recently we worked on it.
The Warranty Claim Process
- Contact us and describe the issue. We'll schedule a diagnostic visit ($30, waived if you proceed with service).
- We confirm the failure is a manufacturing defect and that the device is still within its warranty period.
- We submit the RMA to the manufacturer on your behalf. Turnaround time depends on the manufacturer — typically a few business days to a few weeks.
- Once the replacement arrives, we schedule a visit to install it. This visit is billed at our standard labor rate, same as any other service call.
If a manufacturer requires the original purchaser to file the RMA directly, we'll walk you through that process instead of filing it ourselves.
What Voids a Manufacturer's Warranty
- Physical damage (drops, cracks, pet or pest damage)
- Water or moisture damage
- Power surges or electrical damage (a surge protector or UPS reduces this risk)
- Unauthorized modification, disassembly, or repair attempts
- Normal wear and tear, or damage from improper environment (heat, dust, ventilation)
If a failure falls into one of these categories, replacement is still possible, but it's billed as a standard paid repair or replacement rather than a warranty claim.
Billing Example
To make the split concrete — a UniFi switch fails 8 months into a 2-year manufacturer warranty:
- Diagnostic visit: $30 (waived since you're proceeding with the repair)
- Replacement switch: $0 — covered by the manufacturer's warranty
- Removal of the failed unit and installation of the replacement: billed at our standard onsite rate ($75/hr, 1-hour minimum)
You pay for our time on-site. You don't pay for the switch. See our Terms of Service for current labor rates.
How to Start a Warranty Claim
- Email [email protected] or call (479) 370-0397 with the device and a description of the issue
- We'll schedule a diagnostic to confirm it's a warranty-eligible failure
- We'll walk you through expected timeline and labor cost before starting the RMA
Not sure if something is still under warranty? We'll check for you.
